SOUTH AFRICAN CATWALK

Ida-Elsje and Philippa Green show their fabulous jewels on the South African Runway from seasons past. We look forward to Autumn 2010 but for now, I think, our Southern Hemisphere fashionistas are creating some drool-worthy creations.

IDA-ELSJE

Ida-Elsje’s oversize, bold metal cut-outs create striking silhouttes. The shadow of the metal fretwork enhances the overall effect as the pattern refelcts on the skin like a diffused tattoo. Her striking metalwork almost has a molten-like quality especially evident in her neckpieces where giant fronds hang seductively from the neckline and chain links shimmer against the delicate fabrics of the clothing.

 PHILIPPA GREEN:

A lover of perspex, Philippa’s cuffs have become iconic and would be a ‘must-have’ in any fashionista’s wardrobe. Her perspex cuffs wrap around the arm with pierced metal detailing or a rainbow of satin thread depicting the National flower or flame lily. Whether it be an etched plate or chain link, Phillpa’s work is refreshing as it juxtaposes ancient craft techniques with cutting-edge design.
