JEWELRY TRENDS A/W 2011 AT MILAN FASHION WEEK

BOTTEGA VENETA

Tomas Maier’s prints, jewel-tones and virtual lace reflect the mood of this collection which he suggests should resemble the view one gets when looking through a stained glass window in a Gothic church. The repetitive semi-precious jewel chokers and stone drop earrings meant the jewellery, too, resembled coloured glass.
Jewellery Trend Alert: Jewel-tone stone chokers

CAVALLI

Feathers, fringing and metallic layering suggested that Roberto Cavalli was still all for ‘Haute Haberdashery’ this season, only his gypsy girl has been given a hard core makeover and evolved into a warrior woman. A fierce carapace of shimmering bangles and layered neckwear replaced the leather fringing from the season before.

DOLCE & GABBANA

With androgyny dominating the Dolce & Gabbana runway, we were excitedly anticipating what jewellery we might see. We soon realised the starry earrings and piano key cuffs were what separated the girls from the boys. Oversize star earrings reflected the star-spangled prints and music-note bangles played matchy-matchy with floaty fabric dresses and sequin colour pops. There was a hint of Byzantine in the jewel-encrusted dresses but the focus  was on Perspex statement pieces this season.
Jewellery Trend Alert: Star jewels and ‘kooky’ music note cuffs

GUCCI

The berry hues and peacock tones that rocked Gucci’s runway were reminiscent of the 70s with lush fabrics in deep velvet overtones providing the layered colour hues that gave the collection a jewel-like quality. The long chain pendants and jewelled brooches pinned to coloured fox fur stoles, stole the show on the jewellery front – the rings, although coupled, were understated.
Jewellery Trend Alert: Long chain pendant necklace

MARNI

Castiglioni confirms our suspicion that this season is all about matching and seamless integration. Marni’s lines are clean and simple and her patterns blended into the backdrop and even the floor coverings. Jade green and punchy citrus hues dominated on the jewellery front with round hoop earrings and stone-set chokers adorning the elegant lines of the coat-dress and skirt.
Jewellery Trend Alert: Stone-encrusted single tone chokers and colour hoop earrings
