DONNA KARAN

Amazing to think that Donna Karan named her A/W 2011 collection ‘Pearls of Wisdom’, and no surprise that Erickson Beamon designed all the necklaces that went from single bead chokers to multi-strand pieces across a neutral palette in muted tones of grey and taupe. To add to the classic chic, the models wore Grace Kelly topknots and long, elbow length gloves – this is the beginning of a pearl revival. Jewelry Trend Alert: Pearls.

RALPH LAUREN

Jade and coral red earrings and long-beaded, primary bright necklaces accessorised a classic colour palette and pointed us in the direction of China. There was an element too of Art Deco in the beaded evening dresses and single brooches. Ralph’s ‘China Girl’ will certainly inspire a longing for motif jewels with a ‘Shanghai’ edge but I think it’s the red and green lacquered brights that are the ones to watch. Jewelry Trend Alert: Bright lacquered beads to accessorise a monochrome palette.

DIANE VON FURSTENBERG

‘American Legends’ is the name of Diane von Furstenberg’s new collection which was peppered with fringe, saloon hats and leather patchwork. From gaucho to New York nightclub, most noteworthy on the ac was her attention to detail and the fact that her bangle stacks were colour co-ordinated with the outfit they were accessorising. Jewelry Trend Alert: Colour co-ordinated jewels.

BETSEY JOHNSON

‘He Loves Me/He Love Me Knot’ appropriately hit the runway on the 14th February and ended with Betsey and Patricia Field (the stylist who rocks the wardobes on set for ‘Sex and the City’) cartwheeling down the runway – who says fashion isn’t fun? In and amongst the tartan and animal print, we loved Betsey’s take on this seasonss big new look – the choker. Betsey’s punk-edge collection was once again bang on trend, even with a bit of attitude. Jewelry Trend Alert: The choker.
