Trend Alert: Jewellery-Wear

From the metamorphic carapaces of Shaun Leane’s collaboration with Todd Lynn, to the passion-inspired web of chain from MFPepe’s ‘Amore Los Une’ collection: jewellery is taking on an apparel-like quality, where the boundaries of adornment are challenged to the extreme in terms of our traditional understanding of jewellery as an earring, necklace or ring. Fannie Schiavoni’s hand-crafted mesh of jump rings are like jewelled body armour that hints at a mediaeval revival, whilst Erickson Beamon combine their opulent scrolls with lashings of chain to create a body piece that is both jewel and garment. Both Yunus & Eliza and Dominic Jones explore the precipice that exists between concept and reality through theatrical headgear and metal spike eye patches. Jewellery-Wear is a growing genre that explores the extremes of what is possible – these designers are pioneers in the jewellery world and I look forward to what we can expect next…

    Incredible!
Particularly like FANNIE SCHIAVONI and ERICKSON BEAMON who inspite of the radicalness (is that a word?) manage to create a vintage look, too.

    Hi Rachel,
    Thank you for your comment…
I agree ‘Incredible’ – it seems quite extraordinary to see jewellery move more and more into body pieces, I just love the innovation and creativity associated with this genre!
    Warmest
