| Kingfisher earrings By Fei Lui |
When I first set my eyes on these beautiful ‘Kingfisher’ earrings by the talented UK based designer, Fei Lui at IJL, it was love at first sight. Fei’s platinum design is based on the ancient Chinese art whereby the skilled craftspeople painstakingly cut and glue the feathers of a kingfisher into gilt silver. In these earrings the platinum lattice forms the structure of the earrings onto which the delicate kingfisher hairpins are attached.
The platinum lattice set with dazzling diamonds and vibrant turquoise stones complements the colour of the feathers but looks equally striking when the hairpins are removed from the structure. The genius of re-inventing an ancient craft with a modern twist has become a signature for Fei Lui and it is this that makes these earrings worthy of placement #1 on my ‘wish list’.
