Maria Francesca Pepe is Italian by birth. She has studied at some of London’s most acclaimed colleges, including the Royal College of Art and Central St.Martin’s. While studying, Maria immersed herself in subjects like experimental fashion design and illustration and went on to complete her MA at St.Martin’s. Her final show included jewellery and footwear, and was well received by the international press and buyers. This successful show catapulted her into the global arena and stimulated various collaborations with the likes of Kookai, Jens Laugesen and Fashion East. Recently, she has established her own brand, MFPEPE.

Maria explores the concept of “jewellery-wear†in each of her collections where jewellery and clothing become interchangeable. Her jewellery has an Industrial edge, underpinned by a feminine aesthetic, which revolutionises the concept of jewellery as an ornament of function and wearability. To this end Maria merges the boundary between jewellery and clothing, ultimately making jewellery the hero of the look.

Maria Francesca Pepe talks to the organisers of London Fashion Week, when asked to describe her design signature, she says:†The concept of jewellery-wear, which means jewellery becomes the primary focus of the outï¬t and features within bags, jackets and dresses. Most significantly though, my chunky tubulars have become iconic and I will present them in new colours and materials for the forthcoming seasons.â€
Her A/W Collection “Les C†is inspired by fashionable French prostitutes and explores the avant-garde where key elements reach oversized proportions. Her pleated brass lapels now define Maria’s signature “wearable jewelleryâ€.
Adorn can’t wait to see MFPEPE’s Bathing Beauties Spring/Summer 10 Collection, launching at London Fashion Week.
