Holiday jewels

With summer hols upon us, I asked some of the Adorn contributors, designers and fashionistas to talk about which jewels they would pack in their suitcase…

"For me, holiday jewels should be easy to wear. I know a striking, bright-beaded necklace would make any holiday outfit complete, but if I’m lazing on the beach, taking a swim or exploring the local sights, then a subtle dash of colour and something a little tongue-in-cheek will do for me. That’s why my little silver anchor necklace is a must, as are Joanna Cave’s silver tag and pearl pendants, strung on a hot pink thread. Joanna’s Greek roots mean she knows the kind of simple jewels a sun, sea and sand girl would love. And they’re definitely top of my list!"

"I went to the Aeolian islands, north of Sicily, with my husband and daughter, and I wore my Fiji, my Rio and my Luna bracelets in yellow vermeil every day, did not even take them off for swimming! They look amazing with a tan. I also wore no watch but instead, my latest favourite, a FLUORO pink Fiji bracelet we are launching exclusive to Net-a-porter.com in September. I LOVE it! I also packed some moonstone Nugget cocktail earrings and matching cuff for evening, and my mini Marie pendant which I also wore every day, in yellow gold vermeil".

"I’m taking five bone bangles from India, a pair of marcasite drop earrings from my Great Grandma, my Great Aunty’s gold wedding ring (left forefinger), a gold and black ‘hip hop’ chain necklace by Florian and my trusty gold hoop earrings".

"The general mantra when packing jewelry for a trip is "keep it simple". For a self-proclaimed jewelry fanatic like myself, this is easier said than done. That’s why I always give myself options, but I make it a point not to get too carried away. In my suitcase you will always find several thin bracelets for layering, a few cocktail rings, a pair of studs, a pair of chandelier earrings, my staple "Dad" necklace, and a handful of my current favorite pieces. I try to choose a limited amount of both jewelry and clothing that can be easily intermixed with one another in order to create several different looks. The goal is to take pieces that will work whether I’m lounging by the pool or getting gussied up for a special night out!"

"My diamond eternity ring comes with me no matter what – the best present(proposal) I have ever had. Justin  also bought me a Tag Heuer Aquaracer with the mother-of-pearl face about three years ago – he’d known I had coveted it forever and he bought it for me on a flight home from a holiday we spent in Lamu – I wear it every day, sleep in it, swim in it… Gold and pearl stud earrings which I wear day in and day out… actaully I lie… in one ear is a gold and pearl stud and the other a diamond – I have lost one of each but they are my faves and cant bear not to wear them. A wooden bead necklace for those shopping-at-the-market days wound around my wrist as a bracelet. I ‘luv’ gold vermeil chains and bracelets. Colourful bangles and dingly dangly earring for evenings. I don’t/cant leave home without my gold key on a long chain made by my friend Janine Binneman".

"I always take my favourite bejewelled sunglasses and a vintage enamelled sea-shell bracelet that Frazer bought me… it is amazing but really only looks right with a tan and a relaxed attitude :-) ."

"I make sure to pack earrings: I have several I take, one for each look – casual, dressy and statement, when going to parties with my girlfriends. They are also great as they are easy to pack."
