Space age meets Rococo with Lagerfeld’s playful wit unravelled in metallic opulence and fairytale style. Sorbet hues and molten silver-like fabrics were lavishly adorned with draped pearls, fluid wristwear, oversized corsage embellishments and dazzling brooches. Ladder-like glass rods woven together with glinting ribbons of gold metal unravelled around the wrist and unfolded from stylised hair bouffants. Apart from the chokers peeking through high neck ruffles and structured collars, boundaries between garment and jewellery were once again blurred when a halter necktie became indistinguishable from a cascading crystal choker. Lagerfield triumphs once again: he emerged from the wings wearing a silver tie – a salute to the glittering fantasy world of heart-shaped bouffants which provided an escape from life more ordinary outside.
