Inspirations from New Mexico

new mexico inspirations adorn london jewellery trends blog
I have just returned from a whirlwind trip to the USA primarily to present a paper on Jewellery Trends entitled "Harnessing Strategic and Relevant Trend Information to Inspire Growth" at the 27th Santa Fe Jewellery Manufacturers Symposium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Yesterday morning I had an hour to walk around the town to soak up the colourful adornments and decorations synonymous with this vibrant culture. Bright metal flowers, painted ceramics, festival regalia and religious iconography make for eye catching visual statements as does the turquoise painted iron work on the earthy coloured adobe houses. I couldn’t wait to share my snaps with you!

Cannes Do: Our Pick Of the Red Carpet Looks

The news that more than $1m worth of Chopard jewels were stolen in Cannes last week focused the world’s attention on the festivals jewels, rather than on the red carpet couture of the stars, or their movie roles.
At Adorn London however, our attention never wavered, and here, in no particular order, are our winning looks.
Cara Delevingne for her old school, dripping-in-Chopard bling, Emma Watson’s cute Repossi ear cuff, Frieda Pinto’s bejewelled bug hair pins, Geoargia May Jagger for twinning demure (if massive) diamond drop earrings with that va va voom dress, and Isla Fisher for working the growing coloured gem trend.
As far as we’re concerned, if they gave out jewellery awards at Cannes, these ladies would all be winners.

Memory Lane: An Oldie But A Goodie

I’ve just been leafing through the hundreds (thousands?) of jewellery inspiration images I keep in a multitude of folders on my computer, and for no other reason than I think it’s gorgeous, I though I’d share this shoot with you.
‘Magical Thinking’ first appeared in W Magazine back in March 2012, and was shot by the incomparable Tim Walker.
In no particular order I love the gold leaf skin decoration, that bejewelled bodice, the scrolling gold neckwear and the arms full of architectural bangles.
I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as I have!

Hello Petal: Shaun Leane’s Rose Gold Cherry Blossoms

If you’ve got wedding plans on the horizon (and frankly, even if you haven’t) the latest iteration of Shaun Leane’s popular Cherry Blossom Collection should probably be on your wishlist.

Re-imagined in romantic rose gold and embellished with ivory enamel and white diamonds, dainty-with-a-twist pieces range from the simple Single Cherry Blossom studs to the statement-making Full Blossom ring, suggested as a "striking alternative to an engagement ring".

To get your hands on the Rose Gold Cherry Blossom Collection go online at www.shaunleane.com or make a date with the Designer Jewellery Room at Selfridges.

Gorgeous Grunge: Chloe Norgaard Rocks

I’ve been slightly crushing over model Chloe Norgaard ever since I spotted this snap of her at the Absolut Elyx launch party in New York’s Meatpacking district earlier this week.

With punk and grunge looks hitting the headlines during the AW2013 collections, Norgaard’s pretty-in-pink take on the look is sure to inspire cool chicks on both sides or the Atlantic.

Here’s a few pieces to get you in the mood…

Michelle Oh

Here at Adorn London we love to champion the young jewellery design talent that exists in our capital.

Today it’s the turn of Indonesian jewellery designer Michelle Oh whose gorgeous jewellery we’ve had our eye on for a little while.

From her east London studio Oh uses traditional techniques in new and unexpected ways to create hand made pieces from materials such as recycled silver and gold.

By keeping production runs small her jewellery retains a sense of uniqueness that makes it so appealing.

Smitten by her SS13 collection, which is inspired by seaside adventures and heritage forest walks, we caught up with Michelle to find out more.

• What is the ethos that underpins your work?
My work is organically inspired by travels and the little moments in life that deserve celebration. Each of my pieces were born from a memory or experience. By turning them into silver and gold I feel like I’m commemorating these memories into permanence, making them last longer.

• What is your design process?
I have a very open approach to designing and making jewellery. I do work to themes from time to time but I’m not interested in following trends, so my pieces don’t belong to a specific ‘collection’. Instead, they are part of a continuously growing curation of wearables which can all be easily paired or worn together. On average I think I create a new design every other week.

• What inspires you?
I like to collect things when traveling which I can later use in my work, in a way they become little souvenirs which I share with the world.
All of my pieces convey a sense of nostalgia, in a modern aesthetic which I think is versatile and easy to wear on a day to day basis.

• Who does your jewellery appeal to?
People who are drawn to my work say that they can relate to the stories behind my pieces and in turn they imbue their own memories to the pieces I make when they wear them; this is a big part of why I love jewellery.

• How do you achieve the interesting formations on your jewellery?
The ‘encrusted’ effect on my jewellery has been achieved using a combination of traditional silver-smithing techniques as well as the manipulation of a relatively new material: precious metal clay.
This material allows me to create artistic and ornate organic textures in a level of sensitivity which is otherwise impossible to create by machine.
I like things that don’t look perfect, so I try to always make or finish my pieces by hand to give each piece a more raw and unique quality.

Lara Bohinc launches luxury silver line

lara bohinc adorn london jewellery trends blog
I was privileged to be invited to an exclusive lunch hosted by Lara at the Groucho Club in Soho to celebrate the launch of her new silver collection for AW2013. Developing new style variations based her existing iconic collections, Lara’s stylish updates maintain a sense of style and sophistication.

From the graceful lines of the Nadia collection inspired by gymnasts somersaults and their trajectory through space to the uber slick Solaris collection with its glossy domes of onyx and white agate; the brand’s foray into silver is a tribute to the skill, craftsmanship and design integrity of one of London’s hottest brands.

P.s. Don’t forget to enter our fabulous competition, where you could win a iconic Solaris cuff by Lara Bohinc.
