De Grisogono ‘Hippo’ cuff

de Grisogono Hippo cuff Adorn London Jewelry Blog
Featured as part of the “BRILLIANT Exhibition” curated by Vogue’s Jewellery Editor, Carol Woolton, to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Year, de Grisogono’s ‘Hippo’ cuff stole my heart. Designed by de Grisogono founder and designer extraordinaire, Fawaz Gruosi, the cuff  is made in white and rose gold set with combinations of brown, grey and white diamonds, pink sapphires and rubies. As I marvel at the masterpiece, nostalgia kicks in and I remember sunset cruises in Southern Africa watching the hippos wallow in glorious mud.

Have a lovely weekend!

Masterpiece London 2012: Jewellery As Art

Last night saw the launch of London’s Masterpiece 2012 – a fabulous fair devoted to art and antiquities across the ages and of the very highest order.

From gilded mirrors and oriental textiles to Baroque furniture and mid century homewares everything the dedicated aesthete could wish for is available to buy along Masterpiece’s plush aisles.

Naturally, it was the jewellery that lured Adorn London in. As well as the pick of the vintage dealers whose displays groaned under the weight of bibelots from the likes of Cartier, Van Cleef and Boucheron, contemporary works such as Theo Fennell’s Castle Ring – complete with fully functioning drawbridge – and Hemmerle’s colour-rich collection had us dreaming of the day we win the lottery.

This year also sees the Masterpiece debut of Brilliant – an exhibition of diamonds celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee curated by Carol Woolton, jewellery editor of Vogue UK. Brilliant’s raison d’etre is to showcase one of a kind fine jewellery pieces such as a £29,000 black diamond and emerald collar by Karl Lagerfeld (below right), a pair of shoes adorned with diamonds and feathers by Bruno Frisoni for Roger Vivier, and pieces by Wendy Yue and Bochic whose work Woolton came across a when the jewellers were guest designers at Annoushka.

Both the exquisite Fantasie Mosaic Village Diamond bangle by Wendy Yue and the Caged Beauty earrings by Bochic (below left) were commissioned by Woolton specifically for the exhibition and – if appreciative gasps were anything to go by – were a big hit with all concerned.

Masterpiece London 2012 runs until 4th July at the South Grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Just 24

Annoushka Jewelry Adorn London Jewelry trends blog
There is something magical about knowing you own something that forms part of a limited edition. It feels more bespoke, more precious. That’s why jewellery designer  Annoushka Ducas‘ new 24 collection captures our imagination. Her recently launched ’24′ means that there will only ever be 24 pieces produced of any one design and each piece will be engraved with the number of the piece within the edition.

Inspired by the Art world, Annoushka, a keen collector of herself, said this about the recent launch "For me, there is something so appealing about the idea of owning a piece of jewellery which is strictly limited to 24 pieces as, increasingly, I, like many women, want to feel that the jewellery and clothes I wear reflect my personality and individual style, rather than being instantly recognisable and available."

I was privy to a preview of some of the pieces that make up the collections that in many cases are inspired by Annoushka’s travels and her love for natural and untreated stones; a visual feast made even more special by the fact that they all have a number.

Jewellery Trend: Tommy Ton’s take on cool androgyny

Of all the fashion bloggers whose work I peruse on a regular basis Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil has to be my favourite, mainly because of shots like this one which appeared on Style.com at the weekend. Not sure if it’s my girl crush on this beautiful woman captured at the SS13 Menswear shows, her cool androgynous style or her way with an accessory but this is one look I’ll be channeling from here on in.

With that in mind, I’ve started a shopping list which I’m more than happy to share…

‘Blake’ jacket by Acne at Matches; Burberry scarf at Net a Porter; ‘Cat’s-Eye’ sunglasses by Christian Dior at Saks Fifth Avenue; ‘Pablo’ belt by B-Low The Belt at Donna Ida

Necklace by Vionnet; Brooch by Marni at Luisa Via Roma; ‘Chunk Band’ ring by Imogen Belfield at Kabiri; Crystal stud earrings by Eddie Borgo at Matches

Madmen style tips adorn london jewelry trends blog

Ooh did I tell you one of my great indulgences is to have a night in with a box set of Madmen? I love the 50s and find myself ogling the jewels, clothes and decor on the set. As luck would have it I have a number of social do’s this week so I thought I’d haul out my 50s dress and jewels to match, especially as – thanks to Prada’s ss12 collection – the 50s influence is sweeping through summer ranges all over the world. Here’s a heads up on some juicy jewels that will instantly give you a 50s makeover. Now all you need is the martini!

Colour Code: Dominic Jones to jaunch jewelry diffusion line

In a relatively short space of time young Brit jeweller Dominic Jones (whose fans include Rihanna and wild child socialite Alice Dellal) has made a name for himself as the go to man for sexy jewellery with a rock and roll flavour.

Needless to say we were excited to learn this week that come September Jones is set to launch DJ by Dominic Jones – a Resort 2012 diffusion line which re-visits his debut Tooth and Nail collection.

Boasting bright pops of enamel and wallet-friendly prices, we’re sure that pieces such as the Claw Knuckleduster (above) are going to be a big hit which is why we’re adding them to our wish list nice and early.

Dickson Yewn at Annoushka

London Jewellery Week had plenty of highlights for us this year, but without a doubt one of our favourite moments was meeting Dickson Yewn – a wonderful Chinese jeweller and the latest guest designer to showcase his work at the Sloane Square boutique of jewellery doyenne Annoushka Ducas. Through his intricate designs – many of which include moving components and secret compartments – Dickson "explores the concepts that are central to Chinese philosophy and culture whilst also echoing the unique aesthetics present in many different forms of decorative arts in China". Our standout piece, since you’re asking? The ‘Wish Fulfilling Lattice’ ring below, fashioned from 18ct white gold, diamonds and a mouthwatering slice of jade. *sigh* Maia Adams

Web News: Spiderman inspires jet design

Spiderman jewelry adorn london jewelry trends blog
Close-up of the jet and diamond carved jewel centrepiece

With Spiderman 3D hitting our cinemas on July 3rd, last night’s premier in London saw the cast and other headline celebs take to the red carpet. But it was not the leading stars that stole the limelight, rather celebrity Donna Air whose LBD was transformed into a spider’s web by British fashion designer, Scott Henshall. Henshall, no stranger to creating jewel encrusted dresses for Spiderman premieres previously designed showstopping numbers for leading lady Jodie Kidd in 2002 and Samantha Mumba for her Spiderman 2 red carpet appearance.

Last night, however, it was all about sleek back Whitby jet. Henshall adorned the black dress with web-like strings of glistening jet beads gathered towards a magnificent spider carved in jet and set with diamonds by jewellers in house at the original Whitby Jet shop  W.Hammond. We managed to catch up with Whitby Jet Store company director, Chris Sellors who elaborates on the story: "The collaboration has been an exciting experience for all involved. The project has given fantastic exposure to a stunning British product with the diamonds complementing the Whitby Jet fantastically, providing a beautiful monochromatic appeal. The piece is entirely handmade and incorporates antique Victorian Whitby Jet beads. Working with Scott – a Yorkshire born and bred designer – to transform his vision into reality has resulted in a stunning jewel piece and dress combination."

At Adorn Insight we not only spoke about jet as a new trend in jewellery material but we featured numerous reports a while back hailing beasties as a hot subject for jewels: have to say we were spot on.
