Festival Style

Festival Jewellery StyleQ: Hi Juliet, I am going to my first ever music festival and I want to look and feel fabulous. I found this tie dyed dress and would love to buy some jewellery that would work well with it. I don’t mind investing in a few pieces as long as they are versatile and i would be able to wear them again. Can you help?

Jemima, London

A: Hi Jemima, thank you for your style advice question; I always try to tie them in with the trend focus for the week so this is perfect as we focus on ‘festival’. Well, you have every excuse to stack and layer and as you have gone for warm colours in the dress I have a colour palette to work with. Monica Vinader’s sunset stack is perfect, as is the layered bangle look. I love the Mawi bracelet as it has the ‘must-have’ festival skull element and the transparent teardrop crystals add a colour injection. The Ashley Pittman horn bracelet is a perfect accompaniment, as the natural stripes in the horn pick up the patterns in the dress. All these pieces you will wear again and again!

Enjoy your festival!

London Jewellery Week: Sarah Curran

‘CELEBRATING JEWELLERY’ BY SARAH CURRAN

Next up in our exciting series of features written by ‘movers and shakers’ in the fashion and jewellery industry, Sarah Curran, CEO of MY-Wardrobe, talks about what the title ‘Celebrating Jewellery’ means to her…

"Statement jewellery has always been one of my favourite things. As I was growing up I was fascinated by my grandmother’s cocktail rings, bracelets and necklaces. I’m known for my love of Roberto Cavalli rings, friendship and chakra bracelets by Carolina Bucci, Aamaya by Priyanka and Daisy Jewellery.

For the last couple of seasons, statement jewellery has become more of a focus for designers with SS11 and AW11, especially with the 1970s influence, which is continuing. Those absolutely amazing statement pieces; be it necklace, cocktail ring or cuff; can transform a look in an instant, whether it’s for day or night.  At the other end of the scale, friendship-style bracelets have seen a phenomenal demand.

Designers to look out for include Anton Heunis, Alexis Bittar and Aamaya by Priyanka. We introduced Anton Heunis’s collection last season, which was a fantastic success and the AW11 collection is incredible. Every piece is amazing with a vintage edge looking like it has a story attached to it. Autumn Winter 2011 will see our first season with Alexis Bittar, which is another fabulous collection and is on my ‘must buy’ list. There has been a huge buzz around chakra bracelets and the Aamaya by Priyanka collections feature some beautiful ones".

London Jewellery Week: Vicki Sarge Beamon

CELEBRATING JEWELLERY: VICKI SARGE BEAMON

Vicky Sarge Beamon Erickson Beamon

Next up in our exciting series during London Jewellery Week, fashion jewellery designer extraordinaire and co-founder of Erickson Beamon, Vicki Sarge Beamon talks about what the title ‘Celebrating Jewellery’ means to her…

For me to ‘Celebrate’ jewellery is to acknowledge the deeper importance these objects bring to our lives. Jewellery goes much further than what is seen from the surface – they are a manifestation of our emotions in a physical form. It is so personal to each individual and I feel so fortunate to come to work each day creating amazing pieces which will trigger an emotional response to both the wearer and admirers.

Isabella Blow spoke of her clothing as protective armour. In this same medieval sense – if clothing is armour than jewellery is the talisman. It is the final touch which people use to express their personalities or how they want to project themselves at a particular moment. So much of what Erickson Beamon creates is used to enhance an atmosphere and I believe this is one of the reasons for our longevity. We have been collaborating with designers and working with stylists on magazines and for celebrities now for nearly 3 decades. I believe what draws these amazing creative people back to us time and again is the sensitivity which we are able to project into our pieces interpreted from their concepts.

We have recently created a headpiece for Beyonce for her latest video. Her stylist asked us to create a piece which would show power and strength and would be multi-cultural. The final design drew from these ideals and the show stopping piece was created and viewed all over the world.

Erdem Fall 2011 Erickson Beamon London Jewellery Week
 Erdem fall 2011

For Erdem’s Winter 2011 show he asked us to create earrings for an artist’s wife who was angry at her husband and they were going through a separation. We showed this by making a dark atmosphere on the earring and then splattering it with paint showing her emotional imbalance.

Design has to have passion and joy. It has to make you understand a place, a time, and era. It has to be a vehicle for the person who ultimately owns it to connect to something personal and meaningful.

London Jewellery Week: ‘Designer of the Year’ Yunus & Eliza

‘DESIGNER OF THE YEAR’

Yunus & Eliza Designer of the Year Adorn London Jewellery Blog
Yunus & Eliza with judge and London Jewellery Week ambassador, Juliet

I had the honour of selecting the ‘Designer of the Year’  at Treasure during London Jewellery Week.

The finalists were selected by a panel of London Jewellery Week ambassadors and included:

1. Leyla Abdollahi
2. Zelia Horsley
3. Tomasz Donocik
4. Cindy Dennis Mangan
5. London Bird
6. Yunus & Eliza
7. Natalia Schroder
8. Milena Kovanovic
9. Flash Trash vs Alexander Davis
10. Linnie McLarty

Yunus & Eliza were my winners of this prestigious award. Their work, described as ‘sculpture to be worn’, has progressed since their debut collection was showcased at London Fashion Week in 2010. Not only are they featured in glossy editorials around the world and high profile music videos, but their ability to create pieces that would be considered ‘jewellery wear’ alongside those that could be worn every day as a pendant chain, without compromising their brand integrity, means that Yunus & Eliza’s influence extends beyond the world of jewellery to art, film, music and fashion and they are certainly ‘ones to watch’…

Watch the makings of Yunus & Eliza’s head piece for Universal Record’s hottest new act: ‘Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosours’.
